
3. Promotion of Countermeasures against Marine Plastic Litter in Asia and the Pacific (CounterMEASURE II)

Main Project Features: The project aimed at improving the region-based model for monitoring and assessment of plastic leakage and pollution reduction targeting land-based plastic leakage entering waterways such as rivers and canals or drainages to the sea developed in Phase-I. The specific objectives as follows: (i) Conduct a microplastic analysis with a focus on major plastic constituents as identified in CM1 in the lower Mekong (Chiang Rai, Vientiane, Ubon Rachathani, Tonle Sap, Phnom Penh, Can Tho) in at least two seasons and produce a report on the findings; (ii) Undertake a mapping of plastic leakage hotspots and pathways in the lower Mekong applying the standardized methodology of project phase-I, including through GIS platforms and mobile applications, and develop a report on the findings; (iii) Knowledge management: Develop a community mapping tool and connect to the data sharing platform backend database.
Main Duties: (i) Developed a mobile survey application II with ESRI Survey123 for the collection of data by local partners and did the training for the mobile application (ii) Coordinated with local partners. (iii) Developed the Macroplastic Visualization Platform for the result from the mobile app.
